ah, parenting

have you ever stopped to think about the fact that once you become a parent you never, ever get one single day off? that became painstakingly real for me this week as mya and i have been sick with bad colds at the same time; the kind of colds that make a one year old not want to be held but not want to be put down, the kind that make my head feel like it's going to implode or explode or both.
in my family we don't have the luxury of grandparents close by (much to my mother's chagrin-:)), and bryan can only take so much time away from research. yesterday mya and i spent two hours at my doctor's office so that i could get ol' faithful, amoxicillian. in God's providence there was a large playhouse in the lobby with which mya could play. in and out, open and close, with my cell phone held up to her ear and my car keys used to 'unlock' the door, she played and played. everytime she opened the window and said, 'boo!' i responded with enthusiasm, 'boo!' and she would let out a loud squeal of approval. on and on it went. i wish i had pictures of that cuteness to show you. my camera was not something i thought to bring. i'm just thankful that i remembered my child and my wallet.

everyone around me wondered exactly what drug i was taking that allowed me to be so calm in a doctor's office for two hours while my daughter did the same thing over and over. reading their facial expressions i wanted to tell them, 'grace. amazing grace of God.' i'm sure my husband was praying hard for me. there are times as a parent when you look at a particular scenario in front of you and you think, 'no way. i can't do it. that's impossible. i cannot take my very active child to a small office building while i feel like pure crap and expect her to sit still.' but i know that i am not a parent by my own strength. God has allowed whatever the situation may be and He does not expect me to parent mya alone, at least not well. He provides. again and again, He provides.

(yes, that is her under that hair)

Grace, You said it sister; as my fuse gets shorter and shorter God surely does provide over and over...

Thanks for being about the only mom I talk to and you understand! I love you and Mya. You are both (and Bryan) huge blessings in my life:) Yes, very providential!
