recently i was thinking about how lucky mya was to be age three and yet to have any broken bones or injuries landing us in the ER. she moves 95% of her waking hours at a break-neck-speed, usually carrying multiple toys and running from one room to the next. today, the inevitable occurred. we were on our way to our friend's house with sandwiches to be enjoyed outside in the gorgeous spring weather. as i was walking away from our parked car, eager to scarf down my totally turkey from jimmy john's, i hear bryan asking for the napkins. i turn around and saw him cradling her in his arms and mya holding her hands over her mouth. he puts her down in front of me as i hand him three small napkins which he used to dab her mouth. she was fine! the bleeding had stopped. so why was her dress covered? just then, mya tilts her head back and i saw it, the wound just under her chin. i've only seen that much blood in the movies. in God's soveriegnty, though our friends were not yet home from church, their neighbor was outside and ran in her house to get an old beach towel. that was mya's security for the next 30 minutes as she bravely wadded it up and held it on her chin while her nerve-wracked parents ran in circles, collecting our stuff and making our way back into the car. on the way to the urgent care bryan explained that mya tripped and fell chin first onto the pavement, the wicked, unforgiving, mean pavement.
i have to say, because all my female readers will want to hear, that the maternal instincts to protect and remove pain from my child were utterly frustrated. i didn't even have a towel to stop the bleeding! as we drove to our favorite place to get medical care on the weekends, (we've now been to this urgent care 5 times since moving here less than a year ago), i asked mya if i could pray for her owie. she quickly said, 'yeah'. i asked her if i could sing her a song and she said, 'yeah'. i said, 'do you want me to sing 'Jesus, i am resting, resting'? and she said, 'uh huh'. so there we flew down the interstate, off to get our baby's chin glued back together all the while knowing that this was a relatively minor injury, and that our faithful God was in full control.
though mya hated, HATED having anyone look at her owie, let alone remove her security beach towel, sanitize and glue her chin back together, and also have a very unorthodox doc yell, 'do you want me to make you beautiful?! then stop crying! STOP MOVING YOUR CHIN', she bravely allowed it. brave, brave girl. the bravest. and when we were done, bryan and i asked mya if she wanted to go get a new toy or some ice cream for being so brave, and do you know what she said? 'i want to go to huntleigh's.'
as i sang in the car, so i sang to mya again tonight, 'Jesus, i am resting, resting, in the joy of what Thou art, i am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart. simply trusting Thee Lord Jesus, i behold Thee as Thou art, and thy love so pure so changeless satisfies my heart! satisfies its deepest longings, meets, supplies its every need, compasseth me round with blessings, Thine is love indeed!' and thank you that when we cry because we hurt, you, Father, do not yell at us to stop crying.

Lisa,
I'm just so sorry that this happened to you! I saw the drops of blood on our pavement next to the wall and just thought how awful it must have been to watch that blood pour out of her chin. What a sweet picture of you guys. Yikes. Mya is a trooper. I hope playing with Huntleigh's toys was exactly what made her happy yesterday : ) Love, us.
What kind of blog is this? My computer filter is blocking all your recent pictures, citing "nudity" as the reason.
