that bed,bath,and beyond will take anything back, countless times, with no proof of purchase, no questions asked, merchandise unexamined, and happily encourage you to go find something in their store that you like in its place?

we got this blender 7 years ago as a wedding present from b,b,&b. 5 years later, it broke. i didn't even have the box that came with it. i walked in, handed it to an employee and said, 'this broke.' the employee didn't even look at bryan who was standing next to me, eyes as big as saucers, unable to believe my 'gall', i think he called it. the girl said to me, 'i'm sorry about your inconvenience. help yourself to a new one and have a nice day.' that was it. i walked out with a brand new blender and bryan mimicking the girl, 'you want to return your old sneakers? no problem. take anything you like'.

well, now we're living in a different state. the blender broke, for the second time while blending strawberries. i washed it out, went to the basement to get the original box, and boxed it up confidently knowing that today i would take it back and get a new one. guess who scoffed at me? bryan said, 'i will hail you shrewdest of all shoppers if you are able to return that and get a new one again.' 'if ', i asked? ' no sweat, my friend.'

today, mya and i left b,b&b not only with a newer model but a more expensive model. kitchen aid has replaced the faulty piece that kept breaking. this one was $20 more than the last one. i would have owed them money but i had 4 million '20% off' coupons on hand so i used one of those. they owed me money! $4.85 to be exact. can you imagine bryan's response when i walked through the door with a more expensive blender which we not only never paid for, but on which we actually made $4.85? he's amazed by me. all i have to say is, bed,bath&beyond is an enigma.
