i've been telling some of you about this and am finally getting around to posting my last craft. i wish i could remember where i saw these. suffice it to say, this creative idea did not originate with me. i seized the opportunity because i've been wanting to display mya's books in a way where she can see the covers of each one. some studies show that this stimulates the senses and encourages little ones to read. so, not wanting to spend a lot of money on ready-made book shelves, i bought a rain gutter (10' long), for only $4.50 at home depot and cut it into 3 foot pieces. it's as easy as it sounds. and it's been effective, too. i'd say mya reads a lot more on her own now. yay!
p.s. some have asked if the edges are sharp. these were cut with an electric wood saw so the edges are completely smooth. if you use a jig saw, etc. and the edges are rough, home depot sells end caps for the gutters that would cover any sharp edges.

nice work!
Go Lisa!! I love it!
Very cute! What did you use to keep the edges from being sharp...or is that not even an issue?
