we had a wonderful time with some new friends yesterday. spending the better part of a day with them and getting to know them,watching our kiddos play so well together, was really fun...
but this is no beach. i'm sorry new englanders. i honestly never thought i'd miss florida.but when we went to the beach yesterday i found myself confused for the following reasons:
first, the tide was really far out so we had a walk a relatively far distance to get to the surf. but it was quite an obstacle course to get there. there were a million slimy, baby hermit crab-looking things all over the muddy floor. second. we had to wear shoes to prevent slicing open out feet on the broken clam shells (a rather unpleasant memory from childhood when the fam spent summer vaca on the Cape). thirdly, we had to have leg muscles the size of king kong to get through the muck that sucked our feet down and wouldn't release them. finally, when we did reach the water we had to specialize in hypothermia prevention because the water was roughly 30 degrees below zero.
you see, the long white sandy beaches and turquoise, 70 degree water that gently laps the shore and calms all your senses, which i totally got accustomed to for decades, is far away from us here. i will simply say, people do not come to new england for it's 'beaches'.
oh all that said, we had a fun laughing at the situation and enjoyed our time because of the shared company. we look forward to another play date with sweet frankie and little dexter soon,

We had so much fun with you on our "beach" day! I agree, the "beach" was rather mediocre that day, even for a Boston City beach. I'm looking forward to our next adventure!
